My Background
My name is Barbara Lennon and I am a native of North Carolina and currently reside in Raleigh, North Carolina with my husband Delwynne Lennon and family. I earned my Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology with a Concentration in Christian Counseling from Liberty University and a Paralegal Certificate from Duke University. I enjoy helping and serving others and participate in a variety of activities in my community and church. My desire is to help, encourage and inspire others and writing and sharing words of encouragement with others is one of my favorite ways to do that. In my spare time I love spending time with my family, reading, writing, walking and riding my bike. One of favorite places to go is the beach to relax and enjoy the beauty and vastness of God’s creation.
My Writing Roots
There is a well-known story in the Bible about a woman who poured an alabaster box of precious perfume onto the feet of Jesus. She poured out the best that she had to offer from her life because of the great love she had for Christ and in His presence found acceptance, love and forgiveness. We are physical and spiritual beings created in the image of God. His Holy Spirit works in our lives, these vessels God shaped from the dust, to mold us into His image and show forth His glory. We are the alabaster box with the precious perfume from our life experiences that should be poured out to enrich and bless the lives of others. I would say my writing roots are the result of a talent God deposited in me and used my life experiences to create the precious perfume of the written words that He wants me share with others to bless and encourage them. From my teens to adulthood, writing has been an avenue for me to express the feelings and experiences of my life and the life of others I encountered. I also love to read. My love for the written word, especially the Bible, is at the root of my writing.
My Style
My writing is composed of different creative styles: poems, prose, reflections, essays and commentary on life events. I write from the heart as I am inspired and as the words start to flow I write down what I hear in my heart, mind, and spirit or what I feel. I keep writing until I feel I have expressed the complete thought on paper in my own handwriting then I read it and edit it where needed. I do not type it up immediately. I keep journals, loose paper, and notebooks nearby to write in because the words flow into my heart and mind at different times during the day and at night. Some items were even written on the back of envelopes or scrap pieces of paper. I allow the writing to flow from within as it is prompted by life or interactions from others and let the creativity that God placed within me to flow freely.
